Visiting the Monastery

We trust in your good intent that you will adhere to these rules within the precincts of the blessed spiritual garden that is St. John Chrysostomos Greek Orthodox Monastery. God bless you!

Monastery Hours
As well as during all daily service times, the Monastery is open:

Monday-Saturday
10:00am - 5:00pm

Sunday
6:00am - 1:30pm
(Closed from 1:30pm - 3:30pm)
3:30pm - 5:00pm

Upon arrival, all visitors are asked to proceed directly to the Guest House (except if you are visiting in order to attend a service held in the main Church of St. John Chrysostomos). As you enter the main gate of the Monastery, you will see the Guest House just ahead on the right. Please park in the parking lot to the left (on the west side) of the Guest House. Out of love and respect for the sacred grounds of the Monastery, we humbly ask you to be appropriately dressed while visiting at all times and in all locations (indoors and outdoors). If you have come unprepared, we will be glad to provide you with the necessary clothing, but our clothing supply is very limited.

Visitors are kindly asked to observe the following rules regarding proper dress and behavior:

  • Women should wear skirts/dresses below the knees and sleeved shirts. No pants, shorts, mini-skirts, culottes, sleeveless or low-cut blouses.
  • Men should wear long pants and sleeved shirts.
  • Women are not required to wear headscarves, but since it is a time-honored tradition in Orthodox Christian monasteries throughout the world, it is greatly encouraged.
  • For both men and women, we respectfully request that socks be worn with sandals (no bare feet).
  • You should remember that the consecration of this holy place does not allow for impropriety or disgraceful behavior. Loud conversation, insolent chatter, unrestrained laughter and rude gestures are out of place here.
  • Smoking anywhere within the holy grounds is strictly forbidden.
  • Children must remain under parental supervision at all times.
  • No pets are allowed on the Monastery grounds. The only exception is guide dogs for the blind. (Guide dogs are not allowed inside the churches.)
  • Visitors are not allowed to take photographs without the blessing of the Monastery's Abbess.
  • Using or the ringing of cell phones during church services, meals, group meetings and sermons is prohibited.
  • Overnight visitors are offered three traditional monastic meals a day which are prepared according to the fasting guidelines of our Holy Orthodox Church. Overnight guest rooms are furnished with all the necessary items such as towels, sheets, blankets and pillows.
  • Visitors are welcome to take walks on the property, but we kindly ask our guests not to proceed behind the main Church area and the buildings that are connected to the Church as it is a private area reserved for the nuns.
“Prayer is the place of refuge for every worry, a foundation for cheerfulness, a source of constant happiness, a protection against sadness.”
- St. John Chrysostomos -
